R. F. DeAngelis — I’m an Indie Author and Activist
What do you see as the biggest opportunity in your industry?
E-Pub is taking off, and I very much see it the same way that a base ball player sees the minor leagues. It is a jumping off point for the next generation of authors to get their names out, as well as being a force of change to an industry in need of an update.
What impact will changes in your industry have on consumers? the world?
The publishing industry is a business, they have to take risks every time they singe new talent and make a huge market push for said talent. It like any commodity doesn’t always pay off. This leads to the industry going with “what works and what will sell over what might be the next James Joyce or such. E-pub lets the cream rise and will wind up being a good place to hunt for fresh talent with out the risks of agents over hyping or unsolicited manuscripts.
What is your biggest goal right now?
Right now I am working on getting my work teased with a series of episodic short stories leading up to my larger works such as my novels. The Blackthorn series has at least 8 books planed out, 11 short stories written, one novel finished, the second in the works and two children’s tales also written. Getting both the name of the series and my name as an author out into the wild is my current biggest goal.
What kind of support or types of people do you need to accelerate your success?
Readers, and word of mouth I have always found to be the best way for any author to spread. In short to get people talking about my work. That after all is the point.
What makes you or your work different from everybody else?
Different? I see my work is the same vein as any fantasy and sci-fi writing, using the genre to explore the depth of our society to explore what works, what don’t what and who are misunderstood and what really matters.
