What do you do?
I read and write about science (mostly biomedical) and society. I write PR documents for a large health system. I edit manuscripts and grants for clinicians and clinical medical or basic biomedical research journals, and some regulatory documents related to clinical trial research.
What do you see as the biggest opportunity in your industry?
To bring to light scientific concepts that are swept under the carpet because they fly in the face of society’s perceptions.
What impact will changes in your industry have on consumers? the world?
Hopefully, as communications technology develops, more important, relevant and accurate scientific information will be conveyed more efficiently and creatively to the people who need it most.
What is your biggest goal right now?
Begin writing my own stuff.
What kind of support or types of people do you need to accelerate your success?
A Guggenheim Fellowship would be nice 😉
Seriously – I need my husband, sister, Mom and close friends to be 100% behind me in order to create what I want to create. I need a lot of moral support and encouragement. I need people I can talk to who understand and are interested in what I want to write.
What makes you or your work different from everybody else?
I was trained as a research scientist and took a nontraditional career path into science writing. My unique personality traits (high sensitivity, introvert, ADD) give me a very deep and unique perspective on the way scientific knowledge is acquired and disseminated, as well as the desire to convey these ideas to a lay audience in an engaging, effective way.
Thank you!
